Is it possible to tell the date of buy (I'm looking for the year) from the barcode on a product?
If so, How?

Nope, the barcode is simply a “product number”
The 1st digit indicates approx country of origin, so UK items tend to start with a 5.
Then the rest is tha manuf code and item code.
So unless there was a special offer with a different barcode for a while, no way to tell it's age.
