what are the drawbacks of using continuous ink system?

Answer:
They can save you a fortune if used correctly.

I use one on an old Canon S520. I am not sure what I pay for ink since it has been a while since I’ve actually had to purchase any.

The drawbacks are the assembly is clunky and hard to configure. You do need the CIS at a certain height and maintain a consistant pressure in the tubes in order for most to function properly.

There’s also the fact that it is very hard on the print head. You can either purchase a printer with a Gaiter head (replaceable) or a few printers with a fixed head to keep on reserve. I opted for the gaiter head and have had to replace my print head 3 times in 8 years.

CIS are designed for people who know how to use and maintain printers and who do a lot of printing. CISS are apt to leaking, inconsistent print, clogging your print heads and flooding (where too much ink pours into the print head causing improper colours)

If you are doing a lot of printing, have a good ink supplier and are confidant in your abilities to use and maintain a printer, a CIS is for you. Otherwise it is a waste of money.

Answer:
In my opinion just the cost of the system and the need to alter the printer. The fact is there are some pretty good laser color printers for not much more than a continuous ink system and lots of fast laser B&W printers for less money. If you don't need speed and color and are not doing pics, laser is the way to go. I paid for my laser in less than a year based on the cost of replacement cartridges.

Answer:
Get a laser printer. Much superior for you. Xerox is superior than HP for quality.
