Batteries are perilous waste, so they need to be disposed of properly, In my area you can find drop off containers in many stores. It is worth the money to get rechargable batteries, you’ll save money in the long run and you won't be putting hazardous materials in a landfill.
go to www.eath911.org to locate local hazardous waste drop off centers and recycle centers.

Hi,
Used batteries can be recycled in Brighton fortnightly with the recycle collection. Just bag them up and put them in your plastic/canvas recycling box for collection with everything else. If your not aware of Brighton's recycle collection look at Brighton&hove council website to request a box or find out collection dates for your area.
Ink cartridges can be refilled by taking them to a computer shop.
Hope this helps!

In addition, there are several businesses that refill ink cartridges, like Walgreens. Office Depot accepts ink cartridges for recycling too.
