Answer:
First, I'd open up a new document and just scratch the one that's giving problems. In the new document, put in a “drawing canvas” (In Word 2007, this is under insert->shape->new drawing canvas.) Once you’ve the canvas drawn, insert the photo. It should print ok after that.
