My Canon printer only does about 200 pages before the ink starts fading out…

Page yields vary from cartridge to cartridge. Even the same cartridge models have different yields given different printing conditions. It really depends on the printing activity that you require. Manufacturers has different benchmarks to determine the different page yields on different page conditions. They are usually in the product description of the printer you want to purchase.
