i have tried the hp site without any success

If you go to begin then settings and then printers, there you’ll see the list of printer queues installed on the Computer, if you go to add printer and click next then select local printer annd choose LPT1 port, this will pick up you usb cable, then proceed further it will then ask you for the driver so if you insert the CD from the printer and choose the 'Have Disk' under the list of driver this will bring up a new window with a browsing option, click browse and choose the drive with the CD and look for a file called AUTORUN and select this, now you will be back at the drivers section with a list of few compatible drivers for you printer, select as appropriate,

You have now installed your printer the time saving way.
