Unfortunately you've put your question into the Computers-Printers section of Yahoo Answers instead of under Games & Recreation where you would have been better off amongst those who are more familiar with the DSi.
As for your question regarding the Nintendo DSi, it doesn't look like your r4 can be used in the new DSi model. Below I've included a couple of web links that cover that specifically.
