so my friend whipped my hard drive because my family saves EVERYTHING so he whipped it so i could have more space but by accident he deleted the program that my printer ran on and now my computer says that i don't have a printer hooked up but i do!

You'll find a button where it says begin detection.
It will scan your computer: allow this.
It will tell you what it is missing and how to remedy it.
or:
Find your printer model and type it without your printer connected.
Download the drivers and install following the instructions.
Once this has been done, reconnect your printer and you should be up and running again.
If it asks for a restart, do that and you'll be fine: DON'T worry, you will be fine, it is really simple.

HP has a web site where you can tell them what printer you’ve and they will trouble shoot it for you and I think reload your soft ware for the printer
