i just replaced a black PG-40 ink cartridge in my pixma ip1800 with a remanufactured one from whsmith. However it still state ink levels are low? It never actually detected it but things have started to print out well now, so why does it still say ink levels are low? How do i get it to like test the ink levels properly?

Answer:
It will continue to tell you that as it is not an original cartridge. I’ve it with mine and it is fine as long as it prints that's the main thing. The ink level monitor is never accurate anyway so it is of no use. It won’t reset the ink levels with compatibles just originals as they’ve a chip in them to reset it and re-manufactured ones don't.

Can I state that I think you are British and I purchase my compatible cartridges on line from ink'n'tone UK and their only about £10.49 and they’ve a lot more ink in them than the normal ones of the same yeild number and they deliver them free. I’ve put the link in, in case you wish to give them a try. If you have problems with the printer accepting the cartridges reset if by pressing the reset button which is a tiny button with a red circle and square and two black slashes above. Press it down and hold it if ever the orange warning light comes on and this resets it, but not the ink level reader. Only change cartrdiges, even originals, when print quality goes as there is usually 20% of ink left even after you ink reader has stated the ink is low, or all you will be doing is throwing ink away. This action of reseting usually get it working as if it had a new cartridge in it. I’ve the MP 220 so your reset button may be different, you manual should tell where yours is. I also can use the PG-40 though.
