Why won’t my printer work? What are the popular toner cartridges in Canadian market?

I installed a pic cartridge in my Dell 946. I figured out it goes on the left in place of the black cartridge. But now when I go to print a picture, the printer keeps using my almost-out-of-ink color cartridge on the right. I have the ability to tell because the picture keeps coming out faded. Anyone know how to select the cartridge for a printing job? I've looked all through printer options and can't find anything. Thanks!

Answer:
A pic cartridge is not used to replace a the color cartridge, it is used in combination with the color cartridge.

A pic cartridge only has three colors in it. Light black, light magenta, and light cyan, it cannot print every color of the spectrum with this cartridge, it needs the color cartridge with the yellow magenta and cyan ink.

So yes your photos are faded and look wrong because you are nearly out of color ink. You need a color cartridge to print photos. A pic cartridge is only complimentary and not intended to replace your color cartridge in pic printing.

Answer:
When you try to use your printer, an option box should appear. Select the different options presented until you find the one that allows printing in black only. Each printer uses a different format for it's options, so you will have to search a little for it.
