I have 2 Brother HL2040 monochrome lasers going on three years and thousands of pages. All I ever replaced was the toner at $6 a bottle. I have a Samsung CLP-300 color laser for a year. Just replaced the black toner. A Ricoh CL1000N heavy duty color laser, replaced the black toner for $50 on ebay but it does 10,000 pages. And I’ve a number of Epson inkjets all going strong. I get cartridges at http://ccs-digital.com for under $3 each which hold 66% more ink than the original.

You can't beat Cannon and their cartridges are cheaper than others. I use an older model MP-390 which is a multi-function printer that can print, copy, scan, and Fax, and over the years has done a fine job and never failed me.
