I have a fairly old scanner/printer and my friend suggested the cartridge #24 but what's the difference between all of the other numbers that I see in the stores?
Answer:
Certain numbers only work in certain printers. Some are compatible with others. Lexmark isn’t the only company who does this. HP and Epson do as well.
Examples
The black 23 and color 24 can be replaced with the higher capacity 34 and 35. Same goes with the black 28 and color 29. However, if your printer only takes the 24, it will not take the 35 color.
Here are some more that go together
17 and 16
27 and 26
71, 70, and 75
49, 50, and 55
80 and 85
I would stay away from the printer that takes the #24 as it can be expensive to own.
